Job Description

Dell Technologies is searching for a Senior Systems Development Engineer – PPDM Data Domain to join its Escalation Engineering team. The role requires development work which includes system enhancement and system support for data-protection systems that operate across hardware and software and integrated architectural systems. 

The candidate will work with product engineering and software development teams to troubleshoot complex backup and restore and replication and cloud-tier workflows while ensuring system reliability and performance.

Main Duties

  • Troubleshoot complex backup, restore, replication, and retention issues across PPDM, Data Domain, and integrated data-protection workflows.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Software Development, and Product Management to enhance product reliability and customer experience.
  • Create and present internal training programs which will include documentation and troubleshooting materials for PPDM and Data Domain operations. 
  • Develop technical documents and conduct root-cause analysis while they lead efforts to implement corrective actions.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Five years of professional experience in both data protection engineering and systems engineering. 
  • Extensive knowledge about Data Domain (DDOS, Boost, replication, cloud tiering) and PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM) systems. 
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of backup systems and their replication processes and retention policies. 
  • Advanced networking skills in TCP/IP and Linux and complete proficiency in VMware and Windows and all other operating system environments. 
  • Demonstrates strong debugging abilities combined with extensive systems programming experience that includes Unix and C and multi-threading and advanced troubleshooting tools.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Kubernetes or OpenStack security operations in PPDM environments. 
  • Practical knowledge of scripting databases backup agents and cloud integrations together with modern protection hardware platforms.
