Job Description
Apple is hiring a database engineer to support PostgreSQL databases and AWS infrastructure while improving reliability and automation. The role includes DBMS administration, performance tuning, SQL tuning, Python programming, CI/CD, cloud computing, distributed databases, replication, monitoring, and debugging. In addition, there is the opportunity to gain cloud-native skills and work alongside the application engineering and infrastructure engineering teams.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the engineering seniors and infrastructure team to support project preparations and engineering standards.
- Engage in the tasks related to database management for PostgreSQL and AWS including updates, patching, users, backups, and recovery.
- Resolve performance problems within the databases through SQL, indexing, and memory optimisation.
- Code Python scripts to automate database monitoring, provisioning, backup, and other processes.
- Take care of AWS database infrastructure, CI/CD deployment, replication, troubleshooting, documentation, and on-call activities.
Requirements
- Should have 3-8 years of experience in IT, software, and database engineering.
- Should have practical experience with PostgreSQL, together with strong database fundamentals.
- Experience in SQL and query optimisation and tuning is required.
- Experience in AWS cloud, security, and network infrastructure.
- Ability to write scripts using Python and experience with Linux and CI/CD.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in using CockroachDB, YugabyteDB, Cassandra and MongoDB.
- Hands-on experience in deploying databases on Kubernetes/Docker.
- PostgreSQL streaming/replication hands-on experience along with distributed databases.
- Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry and other database monitoring tools knowledge.
- Contributions to any open-source/infrastructure project in any form.
