Job Description

Databricks requires a Senior Software Engineer for its AI/ML Environments team to design and implement backend systems that allow AI researchers and engineers to reliably configure training and serving environments. The role requires collaboration between infrastructure teams and research teams and product teams to enhance performance and observability and reproducibility of enterprise AI workloads which power Databricks Mosaic AI and enable widespread AI adoption.

Main Duties

  • Developing backend systems to provide ML and AI users with tools to create training and serving environments which they can trust and repeat. 
  • Work with different AI infrastructure teams to build new features that will improve platform performance and user interaction.
  • Develop new tools which help monitor and troubleshoot AI systems and their brief training and data processing operations.
  • Collaborate with product managers and enterprise customers to identify needs which will lead to the creation of new product features.
  • Develop an interaction model which enables developers and data scientists to use AI through the Databricks platform.

Essential Qualifications

  • 5+ years in backend or infrastructure engineering with a focus on building scalable systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, or Java.
  • Experience with distributed systems, scalable APIs, and cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with service-oriented architecture, deployment pipelines, and system observability.
  • Strong product and ownership mindset.
  • Knowledge of dependency management, virtual environments, or containerization technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant technical field.
  • Experience with large-scale AI infrastructure or enterprise-grade AI deployments.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, collaboration, and high intellectual curiosity.
