Job Description

The individual will oversee exceptional engineering units that will design, construct, and maintain vast computing and storage platforms spread over Salesforce’s data centers and public cloud settings as Director, Software Engineering, Distributed Systems & Big Data. This position fuses technology leadership, supervising personnel, and tactical foresight to bring about the availability and security of big data services that support the applications of critical business functions in a highly scalable and reliable manner.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create and communicate the engineering vision with a strong emphasis on customer success, scalability, availability, and complete service ownership.
  • Direct and supervise several engineering groups that are responsible for the development of large-scale platforms for BIG data storage and computing.
  • Give technical guidance and the highest level of expertise in the areas of distributed systems, technologies related to BIG data, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Confer with architects, product managers, and various teams to map out and carry out the execution of technology roadmaps.
  • Make certain that services are reliable, secure, and have a high performance rating in data centers as well as in public cloud environments.
  • Set the standards for engineering best practices and make sure they are followed in areas such as CI/CD pipelines, tooling, code quality, and operational excellence (SLOs/SLAs, incident management).
  • Create and develop teams that perform at a high level by mentoring leaders, promoting an inclusive culture, attending to employee well-being, and recruiting top-notch engineering talent.

Essential Qualifications

  • 12+ years in the software engineering profession, 3+ years in management positions.
  • Mastery in distributed systems and their corresponding data processing and storage infrastructures. 
  • Experience in creating services for public cloud environments, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, with practical know-how. 
  • Familiarity with big data and open-source tools such as Hadoop, HBase, Kafka, Spark, Hive, Presto, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Airflow, and Phoenix. 
  • Proven track record of guiding teams responsible for developing super scalable, trustworthy, and secure services.
  • Service ownership, availability, and operational excellence receiving the highest level of attention.
  • Great written and spoken communication abilities combined with a customer-first attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in managing widespread, essential cloud infrastructures with high reliability.
  • Thorough comprehension of NoSQL databases and mainframe processing systems.
  • Documented success in providing guidance to senior engineers and engineering managers.
  • Ability to fuse long-term strategic thinking with short-term operational actions.
  • Enthusiasm for invention, constant upgrade, and cloud-native structures.
