Understanding the Main Objective
The objective is to combine tiles with identical numbers and create increasingly valuable blocks. Two tiles marked 2 merge into a 4, two 4 tiles become an 8, and the process continues through 16, 32, 64, 128, and beyond.

After each valid move, a new tile usually appears in an empty position. The board therefore becomes more crowded over time. The game ends when every cell is occupied and no neighboring tiles can be combined.

Although creating the 2048 tile is an important milestone, it does not always have to be the final goal. Players can continue building larger values, improving their scores, and testing how long they can maintain control of the grid.

How to Move and Merge Tiles
Players move all tiles simultaneously in one of four directions: up, down, left, or right. On a computer, the arrow keys are generally used to control the board. On a touchscreen device, players can swipe in the desired direction.

When two matching tiles collide during a move, they combine into a single tile with twice their original value. However, tiles with different numbers cannot merge. This makes positioning essential because matching values must be brought together without disturbing the overall arrangement.

The controls are easy to learn, but each swipe can have lasting consequences. A move that creates a quick combination may also separate useful tiles, displace the largest number, or block an important route.

How the 6×6 Grid Changes the Experience
A traditional 2048 board contains 16 cells, while the 6×6 version provides 36. The additional room allows players to store more tiles, prepare longer merging sequences, and recover from situations that might immediately end a smaller-board game.

However, more space does not automatically make the puzzle easy. A larger board can hide organizational problems because careless moves may seem harmless at first. Unmatched low-value tiles gradually spread across the grid, and repairing a disordered layout becomes increasingly difficult.

The expanded board also encourages longer-term thinking. Instead of focusing only on one or two combinations, players can maintain several developing number chains across different rows.

Build Around a Stable Corner
One of the most reliable strategies is to keep the highest-value tile in a chosen corner. Once that corner has been selected, avoid moving in directions that pull the tile away from its protected position.

The remaining tiles should be arranged near it in descending order. For example, the largest number can stay in the corner, followed by the second-largest tile beside it and progressively smaller values farther away. This structure creates a clear path for future combinations.

Maintaining a stable corner also reduces uncertainty. When the largest tile remains fixed, the rest of the board can be organized around a dependable foundation instead of being rearranged after every swipe.

Create Merge Chains
Strong players do not simply combine the first matching pair they see. They prepare sequences in which one merge immediately creates another opportunity. Combining two 8 tiles may produce a 16 that can join an existing 16, creating a 32 and opening additional space.

Chain reactions are especially valuable because they accomplish several goals in a limited number of moves. They increase the score, produce larger tiles, and remove unnecessary blocks from the grid.

To prepare a chain, examine nearby numbers before moving. Consider where the new tile will land and whether it can connect with another matching value. Planning two or three moves ahead can transform an ordinary combination into a highly efficient sequence.

Keep the Board Organized
Empty cells provide flexibility, so preserving open space should remain a priority throughout the game. A crowded board limits movement and may force players to abandon their preferred strategy.

Try to keep similar values close together. A small tile trapped between several large numbers can be difficult to move and may interrupt an otherwise useful sequence. Low-value blocks should enter the main merging flow instead of remaining isolated in inconvenient locations.

It is also helpful to rely mainly on two or three movement directions. Constantly swiping in all four directions can destroy an organized pattern and pull valuable tiles away from their intended positions.
